Colchester 2s 56 Bedford Athletic 12

The clash of the top two in Counties Two Eastern Counties went emphatically the way of the home side as the league leaders ran out comfortable winners by 56 points to 12.

Colchester had two tries on the board before Bedford Athletic had their first of the day with Tana Stenson finishing off the scoring move for an unconverted try that made the score 10-5 on 13 minutes. This didn’t really hamper Colchester’s progress though as they went on to score another four tries and two conversions in the half before on the stroke of half time Brodie Longmuir responded with a try converted by Harry Robson. That made the half time score 34-12. In the second half Bedford Athletic were destined not to trouble the score further. Their cause was not helped by a sin binning for replacement prop Tom Bowman on 49 minutes and Colchester comfortably enough added another four tries and one conversion for their 56-12 victory.

The defeat drops the side to third place in the table, four points behind second placed Newmarket and with two sides being promoted the team will look to get their promotion charge back on track when they host fifth placed Fakenham at PutnoeWood in two weeks time.
